Keyboard shortcuts

Keys are read in one of two contexts:

  • Navigating — lists and screens without a focused text field. Letters may be shortcuts.
  • Typing — a text field has the focus. Letters are text; only the keys marked always keep their meaning.

Ctrl-G shows the keys of the current screen at any time, also while typing. The last row of every screen lists its main keys, with ^G for Ctrl-G and ^V for Ctrl-V.

Many terminal emulators take F1 for their own help, so envite uses Ctrl-G, as nano does. ? and g are ordinary characters you may need to type.

While envite waits for a request, or for the vault to lock or close, up to 32 keys wait in a queue and are replayed in order once it is done; later ones are dropped. A replayed key that changes the screen drops the keys after it. Ctrl-C and the answers to a question are never queued. The queue is never logged, since it may hold the characters of a password.
